What do we know about Wikis?

Hello EduTechors,

I have been informed of a cool internet 2.0 tool called a wiki. I know what it is in theory, but I have never used one. Is there any body using a wiki that could give me advice on how a teacher might use one in his/her class? I need ideas for teachers and tools that are used (websites, aggregators, readers, etc...). Where do I go to find a Wiki? What is the best site? Free?

  1. I just started using wikis at wikispaces.com . Today I met (online) with the students involved in our school newsletter (I teach at an online school, so that's normal). Before the meeting I set up a wiki and gave each student a page to write on, as well as uploading a couple pictures. Then I took notes on the page, and they ahve them to go back to, edit, write more suggestions, etc. during the week.
I'm a newbie too, so we'll see what happens. Wikispaces are cool :)

  2. I can't tell you how excited I was to see someone comment to my blog... you were my first commenter ever!

Thanks wsdmnature, you have inspired me to set up my first wiki. We hope to begin using it as a training resource for SMART boards.
