Tech Dept goes bloggy

Hello STMA associates,

This blog comes straight from the STMA tech dept. We will use this blog as a method of communicating to the district and world on how we can improve our service. We anticipate using these postings as methods for sharing classroom techniques for using technology in the classroom. Hoepfully, the rest of the world will tune in to our Blog and offer suggestions from around the world. Who knows what this will become!

We will start with our first topic: SMART boards

How has SMART Interactive White boards helped your pedagogy (I figured now that I am blogging, I better try to use really intelligent words like pedagogy)? I have never really cared for sesquipedalians... until now!

Okay back to the topic... How have you used SMART interactive white boards to help your teaching? Please be specific as I would like this to become a resource for others to refer. How often do you use the SMART board? Do your students get a chance to use it? What has been your greatest success? What would you change to improve it? Have you found any resources that you really like?

I use the SMARTboard every day. Yes, my students get to use it too. Sometimes just to write on and other times to "play with" all the fun activities/moveable things. I love that I can show the students how to start a technology project BEFORE even entering the computer lab--too distracting for those 2nd graders. They seem to "get it" much faster that previous years! I also love to quickly use it to show kids things on the Internet that they have questions about. It's one more way to help those kids make connections.

I really wish that we had access to even MORE gallery items--even simple pictures. Many times I just want to add a little something and there isn't anything there and then I'm hunting on the Internet for those items.
